Forklifts are vehicles commonly found in factories, warehouses and different work sites where it is necessary to move heavy materials from one location to another. The mast is the mechanism located on the front of the forklift which hydraulically lowers and raises the load. The "cat" is the area which is protected where the forklift driver sits.
Forklifts could carry loads which weigh between one to five tons. Various models can be utilized to raise shipping containers and much heavier loads.
The tires of a forklift must be checked and maintained frequently. The types of tires on various forklifts differ according to factors such as frequency of use, weight of the loads and ground surfaces. Every forklift operator should have access to replacement tires, a forklift jack and tire press.
Tire Maintenance Instructions
You should frequently inspect the tires. Watch for signs of damage and wear to the tires. If the wear on the tire exceeds 40 percent, it should be replaced.
When buying tires, make certain that you are purchasing the correct type - pneumatic, polyurethane or solid.
When the tire needs replacing, position the forklift jack under the tire and raise the forklift high enough that you could change the tires easily.
You can use the tire press to pull the tire from the rim and remove the damaged tire. Install the new tire and properly secure it. If you are changing more than one tire and you just have one jack, lower the forklift, and afterward reposition the jack at the next tire.
A repair company can offer on-site tire repair. If the tire is too large for both in-house and mobile tire presses, the tire that is damaged would have to be transported to a shop that has a stationary tire press.
