Various Kinds of Aerial Lift
A particular kind of heavy machinery which allows an individual to be lifted into the air is aerial lifts. These machines are usually used to perform repairs on places that are high up in the air like on roofs, near street-light fixtures and power lines. Like most devices, there are different types of aerial lifts which can be utilized to complete different tasks. For the utmost safety, each kind of different kind of machine needs right training and specific certification prior to operation.
Scissor Lifts
Scissor lifts are usually known as Genie lifts. They are considered the most basic type of aerial lift. These lifts are made of a platform that is lifted up using pneumatic power and are mostly utilized for indoor applications. Typically, scissor lifts are the safest type of lift models. When totally compressed, these scissor lifts can be driven similar to large carts. Generally, when the platform is extended, they are not able to be driven for safety reasons. Before anyone can utilize these devices, employees must be certified as operators.
Boom Lifts
Compared to a scissor lift, boom lifts are much more complicated kind of aerial lift machinery. A boom lift has a wide base to be able to keep the lift anchored. It utilizes a jointed arm which has a bucket on the end of it. There is a control box located in the bucket which enables the operator to lift and lower the bucket. Since the arm of the boom is jointed, it can also move from side to side. The boom lift resembles a tail of a metal scorpion. Usually, it is used in construction applications outdoors. The boom lift is considered to be more risky to run than scissor lifts, hence, operators should be licensed separately for these types of lifts.
