Rough Terrain Forklift
At construction sites and other types of environments where the surface is not paved, the rough terrain forklift is recommended. This particular type of forklift is utilized to transport materials around lumberyards.

These forklifts are designed for rough terrain. Then again, the equipment is top heavy and must be handled carefully in rough locations. The equipment must be level with all tires on the ground when lifting.

At faster speeds, steering is harder. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration does not set speed restrictions on forklifts. However, operators are responsible for operating forklifts at a speed which is safe, particularly when driving on rough terrain and when turning.

To avoid a tip over, do not lift a load while operating on an incline. The load has to be on the machine's uphill drive when driving up an incline. When driving down a slope, backing down is a good safety practice.
