History
Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started in 1919. The company was first founded by Anton Raky, an engineer. Raky was a pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology. The original company name was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
The cornerstone for SMAG was laid during the year 1937, when the Salzgitter Group obtained a manufacturing facility for its constructing drilling machines. In 1986, the company bought the grab product division from Peiner AG. Soon after, Peiner was developed into an international brand in the following years. Presently, SMAG is the market leader in the globe, using grabs for agriculture, waste disposal, and worldwide cargo handling applications.
